Grade 7 Tioman Kayaking Expedition

When the kids are in Grade 7, we take them back to Tioman and make them work hard for a change, by forcing them to do a 12km kayaking expedition around part of the island. It's even better than making kids cry on the high ropes course, because they just tend to burst into tears involuntarily. Even better than that is the fact that a lot of them say, "I feel sick, I feel sick, I feel sick..." To which I like to tell them, "Suck it up, princess. Feed the fishes and get on with it." Love it.

The school employs some kayaking instructors to do some of the teaching as well. I decided to ask Gavin and Mike (friends from home) if they wanted to come and work for 8 weeks on Tioman and they said yes. This is Gavin, but I'm not sure what he's up to here. Knowing Gavin, he'd probably been drinking.

And this is us having our snap on the beach. If you look carefully at this picture, you will see that Gavin is in charge of dishing out sandwiches which we made earlier in the morning and put them in a bag with our names on (if you can't see that, then you need to get your eyes checked out). In this photo, he is pretending that he doesn't have my sarnie. He is so immature, it's unbelievable. I can't believe that he turned 30 this year. I am half-smiling in this photo as I know he is not telling the whole truth. Just a few seconds later, I got angry and smashed his face in.

Kid: "Help, help! I've fallen out my kayak!"

Me: " Sort yourself out, sunshine. I'm looking at my paddles."

Saw a turtle come up the beach and lay its eggs.

I think this is a big millipede.

We make the kids jump off the jetty as well, which they seem to enjoy. I asked Gavin to take some pictures as I was helping the kids climb out of the water on to some steps. This would have been such a lovely action shot...it's just a shame he forgot to include their heads. I know they say that alcohol tends to affect reaction times.
